Revolutionary Army of The Infant Jesus

20/06/2013

“Haunting, harrowing and sublimely beautiful,” The Revolutionary Army of The Infant Jesus have been described as one of Liverpool’s lost musical treasures. Their music defied definition and their performances confounded expectation. After an interlude of nearly 14 years, this exclusive performance coincides with the release of a box set of historic and new recordings by Paris-based independent label Infrastition.

Mellowtone Presents: Nancy Elizabeth

20/06/2013

+ Special guest TBA

+ DJ Mr Resistor

Nancy and her two previous albums are loved by admirers of sensitive, playful, open hearted songwriters as well hip hop mavericks that adore her natural gait and style. She collaborates with artists such as Paul White, James Yorkston and James Blackshaw. Her much praised album Battle and Victory drew on travels to the Faroe Islands and rural Spain, and was as much influenced by the minimalism of Arvo Pärt and Steve Reich as by the choral harmonies of Judee Sill and the bare expression of Leonard Cohen’s early records.

Of her new album, Nancy says “I decided to call the album Dancing because in the middle of the night, the hours when it was created, I felt very aware of the passage of time. Rhythm is time marked out by sound or movement. Time moves on and everything moves with it. Dancing is not conventional modern dance music, although it does contain some electronic elements. It’s a collection of sounds and words. I hope it will inspire listeners to go out and dance, or stay in and dance.”

Harvest Sun Presents: Money

11/06/2013

+ Guests TBA

Despite their wilfully low-key approach, Money have become Manchester’s worst kept secret over the past 18 months.

Combining the symphonic rush of Arcade Fire with the spiralling guitar work of Radiohead and part of a lineage that stretches back to Joy Division, the band recently signed to revered label Bella Union after two sold out limited edition 7”s last year.

Lead singer Jamie Lee stated in one of the band’s few interviews, ‘Playing live is the true test of any band. We are only ever fully won over by a band who can impress us with their live show.’ Come witness them at close quarters for yourself at the Leaf Cafe.

Doors 7.30pm / First Floor / £7, from Ticketweb, Ticketline, Bido Lito!, Probe Records and The Brink

Mellowtone and Ceremony Concerts Presents: Dan Haywood's New Hawks

06/06/2013

+ Special guest TBA

+ Ottersgear (solo set)

+ Beaten Tracks DJs

A new and literate voice in British music arrives. Dan Haywood’s New Hawks are a collection of songs, and also a band, whose epic scope marries
transatlantic cosmic roots music with a poetic and soulful British folk. A rambling, rolling band whose crazed stage presence, with various players
swapping instruments and psychic powers amongst themselves, has already assured them cult status.
